In 2018, a record for the most prolonged cold spell in Massachusetts was set. Prior to that, in 1918, a long stretch of below-freezing temperatures made life miserable at the time. While it does get cold here come wintertime, it usually doesn’t stay below freezing for too long. However, it happened again in 2018 and set a new record. The years 1918 and 2018 were some of the coldest winters in Massachusetts and anyone who experienced a winter like one of these would appreciate warmer weather just a bit more.

Back in 1918, there was a prolonged cold spell of below-freezing temperatures that lasted for seven days. It occurred between December 29, 1917 and January 4, 1918. It didn’t happen again until 2018.
