This 20-room Mediterranean Revival home clocks in around 7,188 square feet and was named after founder William John Howey.

William John Howey became known as the greatest citrus developer in Florida, which is why the small town became such a huge hit that Howey dubbed it “The Florida Alps.”

What made this historic house a bit unnerving while it was abandoned was the fact that Howey and his wife were both laid to rest on the grounds in a mausoleum, as well their children William and Lois.

Over the years, the mansion was open to the public for tours, with profits from the tours going to various charities.

Yet, the house was eventually listed for sale, as ownership switched hands and the home price became much more inflated over time.
