To be such a small and densely-populated state, it’s amazing how many parks and natural preserves are in Connecticut. We’ve got acres and acres of protected land, from our gorgeous state parks and forests to our rolling hills and farmlands. One of the prettiest hidden gems in Connecticut is the Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust, tucked away in Woodbury, right in the heart of the Litchfield Hills. This is a great place for a stroll or to take the whole family out to enjoy the beautiful nature that surrounds us in the Nutmeg State.

Flanders Nature Center holds more than 2,400 acres of land over seven sanctuaries in Woodbury, Bethlehem, and Middlebury. The main base that we’ll focus on today is at Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary in Woodbury.

You’ll find several miles of hiking trails here. None are overly difficult, and all provide great views. They’re especially wonderful for hiking with kids or novice hikers looking for a gentle stroll.
