In 1886, copper magnate Marcus Daly purchased what was then the existing Anthony Chaffin homestead.

A.Davey/Flickr Daly had it remodeled in 1897 to a Queen Anne-style Victorian home, but he decided to have it remodeled again because it reminded him too much of a church.

Marcus died in 1900, so his wife, Margaret Daly, took over the remodeling efforts.

A.Davy/Flickr She hired architect A.J. Gibson of Missoula to make the Queen Anne home incorporated into a new Georgian-Revival style home.

In 1910, the remodeling was finished. The home has over 50 rooms, is three stories tall, and totals 24,000 square feet.

Mrs. Daly died in 1941, and the mansion was then abandoned for 45 years.

The mansion’s grounds are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
