Looking up at the night sky and staring into the vast expanse of the universe conjures up a lot of deep thoughts. The things that we still have to discover and the wonder of space exploration come to mind. Nothing quite captures our attention like a full night sky. That is why we want to tell you about the perfect stargazing spot in our state. A section of the north has been titled a dark sky park in Maine and is ideal for seeing the marvelous expanses of space. 

AMC Maine Woods was awarded as an International Dark Sky Park in 2021.

This northern wooded section consists of 75,000 acres of undeveloped land perfect for low light pollution. This is the first place in New England to receive this type of status.

Currently, the AMC Maine Woods is the only place in the state to be recognized as an IDSP.

You can even stay in a lodge once you are done seeing the stars.

Sitting within the dark park is a famous mountain we all love in Maine. Katahdin and Baxter State Park have all been recognized for exceptional night sky viewing.
