There’s no shortage of allegedly haunted places in Kansas. The Sunflower State is full of creepy places. Many of these spots have been abandoned for years and are no longer in use, but are surrounded by urban legends and stories of spooky occurrences. One haunted hotel in Kansas that is very much still in use is the historic Wolf Hotel in the tiny town of Ellinwood. This hotel is used as an events center today, but also has rooms available for rent: if you’re brave enough to spend the night, that is!

The Wolf Hotel was built back in 1894. It was originally an addition to the adjoining Delmonico Hotel, which is since demolished and is now a parking lot.

The Wolf Hotel has changed hands a few times over the years, but has recently been renovated and is now operating once again as an overnight stop for weary travelers.

Visitors should be wary, though. It’s said that the Wolf Hotel is haunted by several spirits. It may seem odd that a normal-looking hotel is home to such legends, but things are not what they seem at the Wolf Hotel.

One of the most unusual aspects of the Wolf Hotel is its underground tunnel system. The tunnels have been home to a number of businesses over the years, including bars, card rooms, and more.

The tunnels span an impressive two blocks below ground. The Wolf Hotel is the only access point to the catacombs, and occasionally offers tours of the portion of the “underground world” that’s still accessible. The businesses have long gone, but it’s fascinating to see the remnants of this city beneath a city!

If you believe the urban legends, there are several spirits that roam the tunnels. Some are suspected to venture up into the hotel area, including the ghost of a man who committed suicide in the hotel dining room in 1927.

Whether you’re brave enough to spend the night in the Wolf Hotel or not, it’s certainly an interesting piece of Sunflower State history!
