Modern times are great, but sometimes it feels like things move a bit too fast. Having the internet at our fingertips can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s natural that sometimes you miss the old-fashioned lifestyle, before we could order things from our phone or stop by Walmart on the way home. One place that still manages to feel like a step back in time, especially during the holiday season, is the town of Helen, Georgia. This is one of our favorite small towns in Georgia, and come Christmastime, it’s absolutely magical. It looks straight off the front of a Hallmark card, and you won’t want to miss a visit to this delightful little town this season!
Helen may look like a picture-perfect Christmas town, but in actuality, it’s much more popular in the fall. The city hosts the largest Oktoberfest in Georgia. It runs for nearly two months and draws visitors from all over.

However, you most definitely do not want to miss this place in the winter, either! The Alpine-styled buildings look so charming decked out in garland and lights.

The town has an annual Christmas parade filled with fire trucks, floats, lots of candy, and, of course, Santa Claus.

Even if you don’t catch the parade, just walking through the town itself is a delight. There are several Christmas shops here if you’d like to pick up ornaments or other decor while in the area.

The entire downtown area is set up to look like a German village, giving the town a Bavarian vibe you won’t find elsewhere in the Peach State.
