Those of us who love Christmas in Connecticut feel like we’re starring in our very own holiday movie each year, what with all the decor, festivals, and events going on around the state. But did you know that several locations throughout Connecticut were used as filming sites for a new Netflix Christmas movie? The Noel Diary premiered on the streaming service in October 2022, and it’s already a new favorite for many Christmas movie lovers. It’s so exciting to see places you see every day starring in a film!
The Noel Diary stars Justin Hartley as a man who returns to his hometown when his estranged mother passes away. He finds more than he bargained for as his path collides with that of a woman named Rachel.

The romantic comedy was filmed almost entirely in Connecticut. You’ll recognize various Nutmeg State locales, like New Canaan.

You might also catch a glimpse of the Griswold Inn in Essex. This is famously one of the oldest inns in the country. In the film, it’s called Maple Falls Inn.

R.J. Julia Booksellers is one of the top bookstores in Connecticut, and another filming location in the movie.

It’s no surprise that a bookstore plays a prominent role in the plot. The main character, Jake Turner, is a famous author, and the movie is based on a novel by Richard Paul Evans.

At the beginning of the movie, the main character is at a book signing that is supposedly in Chicago. This was actually filmed at Bridgeport’s Mechanics and Farmers Savings Bank in Connecticut.
