When people think of swamps and wetlands, their thoughts usually turn to Florida – with its world-famous Everglades filled with natural wonders and probably a lot of alligators. But there’s a unique swamp in New Jersey that not many people know about, and it’ll give you that same unique hike through the wetlands without needing to buy a ticket to the Sunshine State. Along the way, as you explore Whitesbog, you’ll pass by stunning bodies of water, a charming historic village – and if you’re there during the right time of year, you might get to see the harvest of New Jersey’s most famous crop in action. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience in central Jersey, in the middle of Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, and it’s a worthwhile day trip no matter when you arrive.
