Washington DC is the best during the holidays. There are light displays and holiday markets and some places that just feel like the North Pole. This year, there is a brand new winter attraction that everyone in DC needs to see! This spot for rooftop ice skating in DC has the best views!
Just about everyone has heard of the Watergate Hotel. It’s just a little bit famous, ok, well maybe it’s a little more than a little bit famous. Let’s just say, we know you’ve heard of it.

But it wasn’t really a place that Washingtonians went to visit until last year. That’s when they opened their incredible rooftop bar, the Top of The Gate.

The Top of the Gate offers 360 degree views of the entire district, the Potomac River and Arlington. It’s an amazing spot all year round.

But this year, the Watergate stepped up its holiday game by temporarily renaming the bar Top of the Skate and putting in a rooftop ice skating rink!

The rink is small but it’s still worth seeing. You can even skate right up to the bar and order some warm treats, a hot chocolate or a wintery cocktail.

In addition to the ice rink, you can still sit and relax near the heat lamps and take in the views.

If you want an even more luxurious and private experience, head downstairs to the Watergate’s Whiskey Bar. At this bar, they’ve opened 12 heated igloos which seat 2-8 people and can be reserved for intimate experiences.

The rink is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday-Friday and 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends. Children are welcome and lessons are available.
