While there’s much to appreciate in Holland all year long, early May might just be the most magical time to visit. After all, this is when the city comes to life with bright, fragrant tulips and a celebratory atmosphere.

The annual Tulip Time Festival, which embraces the area’s Dutch heritage and draws in large crowds of tourists, dates back to 1929. For many locals, it’s not truly springtime until Tulip Time rolls around.

For the 2023 season, Tulip Time will kick off on May 6 and extend through May 14. During this time, visitors can enjoy everything from bustling parades to carnival rides to cultural gatherings galore.

Of course, the main draw of the festival is its tulips. Whether you’re meandering along designed “Tulip Lanes” or exploring Veldheer Tulip Gardens, you’ll find millions (yes, millions) of tulips throughout town.

Take time to watch local high school students perform Klompen dancing while donning traditional wooden shoes or stroll through an artisan market. Round it all out with a few tasty eats from carnival vendors.

While Holland’s marvelous tulips are certainly a sight to behold, there’s one important rule to keep in mind: don’t pick them! Take photos galore, but keep your hands off the flowers to avoid a potential fine!

More things to do in Michigan in the spring February 14, 2023 Chris Muras What is the best spring festival in Michigan? When spring finally arrives in Michigan it is certainly a time to celebrate. And there is no better way to do so than with a spring festival. Here are a few of the best spring festivals in MI:

Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival, Shepherd, MI: Toward the end of April get fingers sticky with the best maple syrup in Michigan. The trees are tapped and the buckets are filled at this glorious event celebrating the town’s famous maple syrup. Native American Festival, St. Ignace, MI: Celebrating Michigan’s strong Ojibwa Indian heritage in a fun-filled and culturally rich celebration of dance, music, and traditional Native American crafts. It is a fun event to learn more about the Anishinaabe people. Lilac Festival, Mackinac Island, MI: Mackinac Island is beautiful any time of year, but when the lilacs boom in early June with a burst of purples, pinks, blues, and magentas, the town comes alive with this celebration of spring. National Morel Mushroom Festival, Boyne City, MI: There seems to be a fungus among us… at least in mid to late May in Boyne City, MI. This fun celebration and moral mushroom hunt bring in guests and participants from all over. Enjoy more mushroom dishes than you thought possible. Mac & Cheese Festival, Kalamazoo, MI: Okay, so this is pretty late spring in the middle of June, but come on - it’s Mac & Cheese! This super cheesy festival is pretty much a must-attend event if you love the gourmet gooeyness of a great bowl of macaroni and cheese. The Undeniably Dairy Mac & Cheese Festival is a fun family event that even we big kids will love.
