Think you’ve already visited all of the U-pick farms in Mississippi? Well, have you been to Mert’s Satsumas? If you answered “no,” don’t feel too bad. Many residents are completely unaware of its existence, and that’s a real shame because it’s one of the only citrus farms in the state.

Mert’s Satsumas is a small mom-and-pop farm in Gulfport.

Satsumas are the farm’s primary crop, but they’re not the only crop.

The Gulfport farm grows a wide variety of citrus, including an experimental hybrid, which is a mix between a satsuma and navel orange.

During satsuma season, which typically runs from mid-September through early-January, the farm opens its orchards to the public, allowing visitors to stop by and pick their own citrus.

There’s pre-picked citrus, too, and that’s in addition to homemade specialty products, like satsuma pickle jelly.

Mert’s Satsumas isn’t the only Gulfport site worth seeking out. There’s also Fishbone Alley. A popular destination, the alley-turned-hangout features everything from eateries and bars to live entertainment and festivals. It’s not just a top-rated spot in the state, though. It’s one of the best streets in the U.S., according to the New York Post.
