The USS ALABAMA (BB-60) is a 35,000 ton South Dakota class battleship that was commissioned in 1942. It eventually became the home to a crew of 2,500 brave Americans.

When word got out that the USS ALABAMA (BB-60) was going to be scrapped after retirement, money was quickly raised to help preserve it. Schoolchildren were responsible for raising most of this money.

This historic battleship was eventually relocated to Mobile Bay and has operated as a World War II museum since 1964. Thousands of people from all over the world visit this award-winning museum each year. In 1986, the USS ALABAMA (BB-60) was declared a National Historic Landmark.
