However, there are many other small towns where you can explore historical landmarks, like Stockbridge. This small town in the Berkshires is home to numerous historical sites, so many, in fact, that there may be more historical landmarks here than stoplights.
Set in the Berkshires, the town of Stockbridge is home to approximately 2,000 people. Founded in 1739, there are plenty of historical landmarks and sites to explore here.

One of the most famous places in Stockbridge is the Norman Rockwell Museum. On the grounds, you’ll find Rockwell’s studio which had been moved from its original location on South Street.

Built in 1886 during the Gilded Age, Naumkeag was a 44-room home that once belonged to New York lawyer, Joseph Hodges Choate and his wife Caroline. Today, it is a house museum with gorgeous grounds you can explore.

Another landmark mansion in Stockbridge is known as Chesterwood. Once the country home of American sculptor Daniel Chester French, visitors can come here to tour the property, hike the trails, and view some of the artist’s sculptures.

Everywhere you go in Stockbridge, you will see a building or a site of historical significance. While the town is small, it does hold quite a bit of history in the state and is a wonderful place to visit.
