Tucked up in the northeastern side of the state you will find a lovely little town called Church Hill. Nestled along a river is a park that is great for the whole family. You can enjoy a picnic or some time by the Holston River. The real fun begins when you take to the woods and make good use of the three trails in Laurel Run Park in Church Hill, Tennessee.

You may need to set some time aside to explore all there is to see at Laurel Run Park.

The first of the three trails is the Laurel Run Trail. This is a 4.3-mile out-and-back trail with 620 feet of elevation gain. It will lead you to a nice little waterfall with picturesque cascades.

Throughout your travels, you may come across a couple of old homesteads and cabins scattered throughout the woods.

If you want a great overlook, then make your way to the Canebreak Mountain Overlook Loop Road.

Brittany Metcalf/ Alltrails This 1.7-mile loop trail consists of 400 feet of elevation gain. Walk through a classic East Tennessee-style forest that many compare to a rainforest, which gives way to excellent views from up high.

The next trail will be quite an adventure if you are up to it.

Peter Whipple/ Alltrails The Laurel Run to Bay Mountain Radio Tower is a somewhat-intimidating 15.9 miles long. With 2,066 feet of elevation gain, this out-and-back trail will lead you to a massive fire tower. Built in 1937, the fire tower is still standing tall, but it isn’t for people with a fear of heights. Climb the almost 100-year-old stairs all the way to the top.

Once you are on top, you will have a stunning 360-degree view of the mountainous landscape and the cities below. It is a worthy reward for the hard work it takes to make it up this old fire tower.
