Montana is full of beautiful scenery and adventures to have. Whether that means a hike through the wilderness or a walk through your own backyard, there’s always something incredible to take in. And, when you start considering the truly magnificent spaces, it’s clear that any time we spend in this state is time well spent. One of those magnificent spaces is a canyon that’s so large and impressive it reminds us of the Grand Canyon. And, while it’s certainly special, it’s still a bit under the radar for those who come to visit places like Glacier National Park.

Located near Hamilton in the Bitterroot National Forest, the Blodgett Canyon Overlook Trail offers 2.8 miles of fun. Most importantly, hikers who take on this out-and-back trail will end up at Montana’s own version of the Grand Canyon.

The route begins about 100 feet into the Canyon Creek Trail. The route is fairly simple to follow and it’s considered great for beginner hikers.

While you can visit the area any time, be aware that there may be seasonal road closures that will keep you from being able to access the trail. Always check the official forest service website first before heading out. Also, be sure to let people know where you’re going and when you plan to be back.
