When it comes to flea markets in Tennessee, there is none bigger than The Great Smoky Mountain Flea Market. So clean out your car, bring some cash, and prepare for a day-long shopping spree with the Smoky Mountains as a backdrop. This flea market has everything you need… and everything you didn’t know you needed, too.
The idea for the behemoth-sized flea market all started with a man named Charles E. Atchley.
Management/ Tripadvisor Mr. Atchley owned a couple of restaurants in a mall and noticed that the mall always granted a high volume of people but the expenses were very high. How could you create the same traffic but with less overhead? The idea came to Charles like he stuck gold: he would create an indoor flea market, pairing the experience and knowledge of mall shopping with the niche field of treasuring hunting.
Fast forward to today and we now have Tennessee’s largest flea market.
Trevor Blalock/ Google Over 1,000 vendors carry interesting items ranging from purses to books. Rows and rows fill this massive space and you can spend the whole day here.
Fresh produce can be found from local farmers in the Farmer’s Market.
Rick Turnbow/ Google You can find a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Be sure to be on the lookout for seasonal items that are sure to delight anyone’s taste buds.
Unique items can be found throughout the flea market, too.
Young Kemo352/ Google Brilliantly made woodwork carvings, brand-new outfits, antiques, and so much more. There is always something new to find at The Great Smoky Mountains Flea Market. Vendors will rotate out items and new ones bring in interesting merchandise. So like any good treasure-hunting adventure, you can always stumble upon interesting finds.
With so much shopping and searching, you can easily spend a day here.
Karen Kobayashi/ Google So why not plan on picking up lunch at one of the many food vendors? Many different options will be available from pizza to Mexican food. They even have their own grill with specials that will rotate throughout the year. Live entertainment is provided as well so you can always have a wonderful soundtrack to your meal.
You can find a lot of common items like boots, clothes, or toys, but if you are looking for something truly unique then stop by the taxidermy stall, perhaps. Who doesn’t need a lounging and/or snacking raccoon for their mantle? There really is something for everyone.
