The age-old adage “Everything is Bigger in Texas,” definitely holds weight when it comes to the Whataburger on N Shoreline Blvd in Corpus Christi.
TripAdvisor/M LeBlanc It only makes sense that the national chain’s birthplace would be home to its largest restaurant. The building is two stories high and spans a whopping 6,000 square feet!
Inside, it looks like any ordinary Whataburger…save for the two levels of seating, of course.
TripAdvisor/Jill V You’ll feel like you’re dining in the food court of a big city shopping mall rather than a humble fast food joint - and humble indeed is Whataburger’s origin story.
Back in the 1950s, a local entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson decided to open a small burger stand on Ayers Street whose mission was twofold.
TripAdvisor/TikiTex Firstly, he wanted the burgers to be so big, they would need two hands to hold. His second goal was for patrons to exclaim, “What a burger!” after taking their first bite - hence the name “Whataburger.” There’s even a bench inside where you can sit next to a sculpture of him!
While the menu doesn’t appear to differ much from other fast food restaurants, true Texans know that Whataburger is in a league all its own.
TripAdvisor/Enrique D Whether you order a classic Whataburger with cheese, a Patty Melt, a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, or one of their newer offerings, it’s impossible to have a bad meal here.
The drink selection is also worth writing home about.
TripAdvisor/Tracy T From soft drinks to shakes and malts to several varieties of tea, there’s something for everyone to sip on.
Another thing to love about this particular Whataburger is the view.
TripAdvisor/TikiTex Located just steps from the pristine Corpus Christi Bay, the restaurant allows guests to feel the refreshing sea breeze while enjoying their meal.
You can even dine outdoors on the second-floor patio!
TripAdvisor/Jill G This is no ordinary fast food dining experience, y’all.
